Nuclear Energy
and Health

Nuclear energy presents several health concerns. Workers can be exposed to radioactive materials or radiation when mining and processing uranium oxide, producing uranium pellets, operating and maintaining equipment within nuclear plants, and shipping, handling and managing nuclear waste. Members of the public can also be exposed to radioactive materials through contaminated water or air that results from mining operations, leaks, equipment failures, or accidents.
