Oil and Gas

Extraction

Oil & Gas Extraction includes campaigns directed at activities relating to the exploration, extraction, refining, and transportation of oil & natural gas products. CAPE recently launched a campaign around the proposed Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline which focused on local health and environmental impacts, cumulative climate impacts, and the rights of indigenous people. For the last two years, we have been engaged in a campaign to educate the public and decision-makers about the health, social and climate concerns associated with hydraulic fracturing fracking projects in BC. CAPE has also supported stringent Regulations for Methane in Alberta and nationally, to ensure that methane emissions from oil and gas extractions are tightly controlled. Previously, CAPE member, Dr. John O’Connor, raised the alarm about an increase in adverse health outcomes that he was observing among people who live downstream from the tar sands in Alberta.
