CAPE-ACME joins Ecojustice in webinar on the right to a healthy environment – and why now is the time to act!
About the webinar, from Ecojustice:
Canada is poised — at long last — to recognize the human right to a healthy environment in federal law.
In April, after sustained campaigning by Ecojustice and our partners, the federal government introduced a bill to revamp the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). CEPA is the law that is intended to protect our bodies and the environment from dangerous pollution and toxic chemicals. If passed, Bill C-28 would also become the first federal law to recognize your right to a healthy environment.
As you’ll hear in this webinar, Bill C-28 is Canada’s opportunity to catch up to the 156 UN member states that have already recognized the legal right to a healthy environment in their constitutions, laws, court decisions or regional treaties.
This timely discussion is moderated by Ecojustice lawyer Caitlin Urquhart, in conversation with Dr. David Boyd (UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Environment), Dr. Elaine MacDonald (Ecojustice’s Healthy Communities Program Director) and Dr. Jane McArthur (Toxics Campaign Director at the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment).
