Petition re: Preserve Manitoba’s

Pesticides Law to Keep

our Children Safe

To: Hon. Rochelle Squires

Minister of Sustainable Development

Government of Manitoba

We are asking you to keep children safe from toxic pesticides used on lawns and gardens in Manitoba. Please do not change the current regulations that ban cosmetic uses of toxic pesticides in this province.

The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) has pointed out that independent health studies have found that children’s exposure to toxic pesticides is linked to increased risks of birth defects, learning disabilities, neurological impairment and cancer.

A majority of citizens from Manitoba that were surveyed recently have confirmed that they are concerned about the health and environmental risks of pesticides, especially for children.

Most people in Canada live in communities where cosmetic pesticides are banned. Let’s make sure that children in Manitoba continue to have the same protection as children elsewhere.
