Ontario Committee (anglais)

The Ontario committee of Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE ON) is a dedicated group of over 400 healthcare professionals working to protect human and environmental health. We advocate for evidence-based solutions to environmental issues like air pollution, municipal climate policy, and extreme heat caused by climate change.

These environmental threats disproportionately harm people with the fewest resources to adapt, including racialized communities, First Nations, and those with low incomes. As healthcare providers, we use our trusted voices to address these environmental injustices.

Co-chaired by Dr. Mili Roy and Dr. Sehjal Bhargava, our committee is a diverse and highly motivated group of health professionals from many age groups, regions, and backgrounds. We collaborate with many other advocacy organizations to amplify our impact.

Our Initiatives

CAPE Ontario has recently engaged in:

  • Addressing the health impacts of extreme heat, particularly on vulnerable populations.
  • Opposing gas plant and incinerator proposals and expansions, including the Portlands facility in Toronto and the Emerald Incinerator expansion in Brampton.
  • Standing in solidarity with groups opposing Bill 5, including First Nations like Grassy Narrows, who have already been harmed by extractive projects.
  • Supporting municipal climate action plans throughout the province
  • Advocating for planetary health education in medical schools.
