Manitoba Committee (anglais)

The Manitoba committee of Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE MB) is a highly motivated group of over 80 healthcare professionals working to protect human and environmental health. Chaired by Dr. Ann Loewen, our committee advocates for evidence-based solutions to environmental issues, such as active transportation, urban tree canopy, and greening healthcare.

Environmental threats like wildfires and wildfire smoke disproportionately harm people with the fewest resources to adapt, including racialized communities, First Nations, and those with low incomes. As healthcare providers, we use our trusted voices to address these environmental injustices.

Our Initiatives

The Manitoba committee has recently engaged in:

  • Improving urban tree canopy coverage in low-income neighborhoods
  • Promoting low-cost active transportation through expansion of protected bike lanes
  • Making our healthcare systems more sustainable
  • Meeting with provincial ministers to push for policy change
