The New Brunswick committee of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE NB) represents more than 50 physicians and health professionals across the province who are concerned about protecting the environment, recognizing that clean air, water, and land are essential to healthy lives.
Founded in 2021, CAPE NB is a bilingual committee chaired by Dr. Renée Turcotte. We collaborate closely with environmental and health organizations to advocate for clean, renewable energy, uphold the provincial moratorium on fracking, bring a rigorous, health-informed perspective to glyphosate spraying, and promote legislation that ensures all New Brunswickers have the right to a safe and healthy environment. We are also responding to the accelerating impacts of extreme heat, wildfires, and flooding.
CAPE NB is located on the unceded lands of the Wolastoqey (Maliseet), Mi’gmaq, and Peskotomuhkati (Passamaquoddy). We are continually learning about our responsibilities as Treaty people and are committed to taking meaningful action to prevent and address harms that are disproportionately impacting Indigenous communities.

- Raised public awareness about local environmental issues impacting health by participating in community forums and events.
