CAPE past president Dr. Joe Vipond given CMA Award for Political Advocacy

Toronto/Traditional, Unceded Territory of the Huron-Wendat, the Anishnaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Chippewas and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, July 12, 2024 – Emergency physician and Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) past president Dr. Joe Vipond is the recipient of the Canadian Medical Association’s 2024 CMA Award for Political Advocacy “for his tireless work to address the health impacts of climate change”.

The CMA cites Dr. Vipond’s advocacy towards Alberta’s phase-out of coal-fired electricity, his role as co-founder and director of the Calgary Climate Hub for local climate action, his leadership as CAPE past president, and his tireless work in pursuit of science-based health responses to COVID-19.

“Dr. Joe Vipond’s tireless advocacy will result in better health for countless people, now and into the future. We are delighted that Dr. Vipond’s efforts have been recognized with this prestigious award, and grateful for his many contributions to our organization,” said Dr. Melissa Lem, CAPE president and family physician.
