CAPE President Dr. Melissa Lem is Planet in Focus’ 2024 Canadian Eco-Hero

Traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat | Toronto | October 16, 2024 — Family physician and Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) president Dr. Melissa Lem was granted the Planet in Focus’ 2024 Canadian Eco-Hero award at a ceremony yesterday evening.

“Dr. Melissa Lem is a fearless advocate for environment, health and justice. This award is well deserved. On behalf of CAPE, we congratulate Melissa and thank her for her many contributions in the past, and going forward. The work never ends, and the world needs more doctors like Dr. Lem,” said Dr. Joe Vipond, CAPE past president and emergency physician.

During her time on CAPE’s board, Dr. Lem has also been the recipient of the 2024 YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Environmental Sustainability, the Clean 50 Top Project award for 2024, and the Canadian Museum of Nature 2022 Adult Nature Inspiration Award.
